From Coast to Coast
Starting this fall, every Sweetgreen in Los Angeles is serving FireFly Farms Fresh Goat Cheese in its Harvest Bowls and other signature salads! For a small creamery in Accident, Maryland, that’s a long way from home, and one of the proudest days in our history.
If you’ve ordered a Harvest Bowl in LA before, you know the lineup: leafy kale, roasted sweet potatoes, apples, wild rice, and a crumble of creamy goat cheese to tie it all together. That crumble now comes from our creamery, made by hand in the mountains of Western Maryland.
Nearly two decades ago, Sweetgreen’s founders tasted our cheese at a farmers market in Washington, D.C. Soon after, we were delivering 10 pounds of goat cheese a week to their first restaurants.
By 2024, that order had grown to 2,000 pounds a week. Sweetgreen’s steady business helped us make payroll through lean seasons, grow our team, and keep making cheese the way we always have. “Sweetgreen gave a small operation the confidence to grow,” says co-founder and president Mike Koch. “Bringing our cheese to Los Angeles is a milestone we couldn’t have imagined when we started.”

What’s in the crumble
We’ve been making goat cheese in Garrett County since 2002. Our Fresh Goat Cheese is bright, clean, and a little tangy, made in small batches at our creamery in Accident. Across our line, FireFly cheeses have earned 148 national and international awards.
Sweetgreen has always put makers like us at the center of its story, and we’re grateful to be one of them. Every Harvest Bowl in LA now carries a little piece of our farm: the mountain air, the craft, and the people who make it.

Taste it for yourself
If you’re in Los Angeles, stop by any Sweetgreen and order a Harvest Bowl. Snap a photo, tag @fireflycheese and @sweetgreen, and tell us what you think. We’d love to see our cheese in its new home.
Not in LA? You can still find FireFly Farms cheeses at Sweetgreen locations back East, at Whole Foods Market and other retailers, and at FireFly Market in Deep Creek, Maryland.

Thank you to the Sweetgreen team for nearly 20 years of partnership, and to everyone who has cheered us on along the way. Here’s to the next chapter.
